Spawning Rules
Specimen spawning is controlled by a wave system and a rules system for where spawns can be placed.
§ Waves
A wave is a pool of Combat Value total and a selection of available specimens. Each specimen has a CV value that is subtracted from the Wave’s CV Total when spawned. When there are no more spawns alive and no more spawns can be created, the wave is considered complete.
In general there is a short resting period between waves, and there are usually 1-5 waves in sequence, depending on difficulty and scenario.
§ Rules
Enemies can be spawned in Insecure areas. These consist of areas where:
- The players have not locked down via cameras or sealing.
- Any vents, when using enemies that can travel through vents.
- Rooms/halls adjacent to the players that have additional entrances.
Exceptions include invisible enemies, which can spawn closer to the players, so long as there is a logic as to how they got there (vent, insecure hallway, etc). When moving the enemies without player knowledge, ensure rules are followed to allow the players to see or hear enemies before they reach them, such as via Observe or an Intrisic/Special.
It is left to the HM’s judgement on how & where to spawn enemies, however it is best to maintain a reasonable logic as to how the enemies got there.
